These non-representational oil paintings bring together spontaneous, intuitive mark-making with thoughtful, analytical division of space and placement of color. I start with big, broad marks using a brayer (a rubber paint roller), allowing the texture of the canvas to show through. Then, I selectively add color and line with oil paint and oil pigment sticks to create color contrasts and harmonies and to move the viewer’s eye throughout the painting. The resulting pieces embrace playful movement and strong color vibrations.
