Monotype on paper
2025
A monotype is a unique print, a one-of-one. I apply paint to a smooth surface, adding or removing paint before pressing paper to the surface and rubbing by hand to transfer the image. Painting on the plate and pulling a print produces marks and textures not achievable by direct painting on paper.
In my nature monotypes, I use found materials from my local environment to apply paint combined with a neutral palette to evoke the patterns and shapes of nature.
My landscape monotypes are amalgamations of various physical environments I’ve experienced.
I can get lost for hours making print after print – the experimentation and surprise when pulling these images is magical and addictive.
